Club News - We Are Shut Again

Lockdown Midnight Tonight - We Are Shut Again.
The club is now shut.

As I am sure you may have heard from Boris this evening, a new lockdown takes effect from midnight tonight. The government 22 page lockdown announcement specifies that outdoor tennis clubs must shut. Exercise with one other person is still allowed in an "outdoor place" but tennis clubs are not part of that definition. The LTA have said tonight that they will lobby for tennis to resume but I do not expect much success from that.

So, as of first thing tomorrow morning, 5th January, the club will shut for all coaching and member play. Please do not come to club until we let you know via Newsletter that we are open again. It looks like this lockdown will go up to half-term in mid February, possibly longer.

For members using Challenge Tennis AutoPay for coaching services, this will pause during the lockdown. Challenge Tennis will communicate directly with all coaching customers tomorrow.

I hope you all stay safe and that some members can get the vaccine by the time we open again. We have offered to the local GP practices the clubhouse as a vaccination centre should it be needed.

If you have any questions or concerns about the above let me know!

Padel Tennis and Indoor Tennis Sub-Committee

Padel Tennis and Indoor Tennis Sub-Committee

At the AGM last year we decided to form 2 sub-committees to explore the options, costs, feasibility and funding for padel and indoor facilities. We have talked a lot about them over the last 5 years but prioritised investment in existing courts and facilities. The pandemic put a hold on the formation of the sub-committees but we have now decided we should get on with this work and properly investigate both under one sub-committee. Tor Stockdale has agreed to chair this group. His team will carry out the investigation so that by the time we plan for the 2022 AGM we are in a position to know if, when and how we might proceed. If you would like to help Tor with this task force please email him at Work will commence soon and aim to finish by September.

Come and join us!
