2020 Adult Club Championships Are On!

I hope this finds you and your family well in these strange times we are living in. As LTA restrictions now allow some competitive play it has been decided to hold a 2020 condensed Adult club closed tournament in September. This will not be ideal for all members but I hope that you understand the reasons.
Here is how the competition will work:
- Players may enter up to 3 events.
- First and second round matches to be played on the weekend of 5th and 6th September.
- Later matches will be played on the weekend of 12th and 13th September
- Finals Day will be on Saturday 19th September from 1200.

All matches will be scheduled by the organiser on these dates with an Order of Play published for each day so that different events can be played by members. The first round of matches will be at 10.00am on Saturday 5th September followed by further matches throughout the weekends. There will be an organiser on site who will take in results and inform players of their next matches. All players must follow the club Covid 19 policies in place at the time of the tournament.

Players must be available to play on these 3 weekends as the tournament is being held in a short space of time. With multiple events being played it is the only way to bring the competition to a conclusion.

As players may have at least 2 matches in a day all matches will be the best of 3 sets with the third set a match tie-break (first to 10 with 2 clear points from 10-10). In the final the 5 open events (i.e. non-vets) will be the best of 3 tie-break sets.

The events are
Mens Singles
Ladies Singles
Mens Doubles
Ladies Doubles
Mixed Doubles
Mens Veteran Doubles (Over 45 on 1/1/20)
Ladies Veteran Doubles (Over 40 on 1/1/20)
Mixed Veteran Doubles (Men Over 45 on 1/1/20 and Ladies Over 40 on 1/1/20
Mens Super Vets Doubles (Over 60 on 1/1/20)
Ladies Super Vets Doubles (Over 60 on 1/1/20)

Entry fee £5 per singles event and £8 per pair in doubles.

All payments please by bank transfer to Great Missenden LTC, Account no 00728756,
Sort Code 20-02-06 with surname and entry as reference.

All entries to be e-mailed to Andy Fyfe at by Sunday 23rd August.

I hope we have a good entry and that you enjoy the competition!

Watch out for further Newsletter communication on our plans for a Junior Competition once Chris and Mike have had time to assess how to do one over the summer.

More of Tor's reusable masks available

We sold the stock of resuable masks that Tor Stockdale provided very quickly a few weeks ago. As we are now mandated to use masks in shops from tomorrow, 24th July, Tor has purchased some more masks for members to buy. They are still priced at the cost Tor paid, £5.

The masks can be purchased at the club using your credit or debit card and our contactless payment terminal tomorrow and on subsequent Friday mornings from 10.15am to ~ noon. The club will pass the money onto Tor. No cash please!

If you are not at the club on Friday mornings and would like a mask(s), please contact Tor directly at

Thanks Tor!

Neil's Note

Many thanks to the members who have been swiping their club cards in the clubhouse door reader to register their attendance. This is part of the new LTA coronavirus requirements that apply to us all at the club and were detailed in the Newsletter sent last Thursday, 16th July. The detailed requirements can also be read here on our website: We need 100% compliance.

I realise the irony of using a newsletter to ask people who don't read the newsletter to read it... ! If you are playing with a member who is unaware of the coronavirus requirements for being at the club please tell them what to do and ask them to read the newsletters!

I signed the contract for the re-surfacing of Courts 11, 12, 13 today so that will now go ahead in October assuming the weather is reasonable then. Courts 17 and 18 have been completely resurfaced to fix the cracking and puddling problems. Please remember to wear non-marking tennis shoes and do not take any plastic ball bins onto these courts. The previous acrylic surface was damaged by the sharp rim underneath a bucket!

Happy hitting, enjoy the Club Nights and new freedom to mix in but please follow all coronavirus social distancing guidelines per the signage at the club!
