October news

As the seasons change, so the dewy grass courts are no longer playable and the floodlights become an important part of the club's facilities. Here is a long-ish news update for you...

Clubhouse

Some of you will already know that Joost is moving on and will no longer be our volunteer clubhouse manager. Thank you so much to Joost for his hard work and all the best for the future. Incredibly someone has stepped forward to take up the vacant position. Thank you Ian Frew for stepping in! We've created a new email address "clubhouse@gmltc.com" to make it easier for members and suppliers to contact him. If you've got any questions about the clubhouse or notice any problems then please email Ian.

Whilst we are talking about the clubhouse, some reminders:

  • The clubhouse is available for member functions and events - its a great space and we can supply a licensed bar. Please contact Ian for more details.
  • Please remember to switch off the lights and close doors after using both of the clubhouses. We don't have on site support and if people leave things open then we have to send a volunteer out to resolve.
  • Also, bin etiquette... please put the right things in the right bins. No dog poop in the recylcling please!

Team update

This upate from captain Adam Goodman for Bucks Shield winter singles:

"The first match of the season went off to a flier against great opponents. Hyperbole should not be used for just one result - but surely it will be a win that runs through the annals of Bucks tennis history and will be treated with hushed reverence when mentioned by Great Missenders in years to come. Great Miss beat Halton 3-0.  Nic Blagg and Tor Stockdale beat a team that included a coach and an ex-pro!  In the singles Nic won a close first set 7-2 in the tie-break and at 1-1 in second set unfortunately his opponent had to retire, Tor won his 6-2 6-0.  The mighty duo then won the doubles 6-4 6-2.  Early days but we're at the top of the first division."

Are you team captain? Please send your updates to marketing@gmltc.com and we'll include in further updates.

Winter Women’s Monday Night Tennis

A note from Mary Bartlett about the organisation of women's Monday night tennis:

"There is a change to the sign-up sheet from November. A new file can be found using this link, Monday Sign up for Tennis November and December 2023.xlsx. This should be easier to access and amend if necessary. You can save the link yourself. It will also be available on the club website on the contacts for social tennis.

The existing Rallly Poll will apply for Mondays, 23rd and 30th October.

Advance notice of Suppers:  Monday 6th November and Monday 11th December, save the dates.

Thanks, and looking forward to seeing  lots of you on Monday nights over the next few winter months.
Mary"

Social events

Thank you to all of the organisers and helpers who worked so hard over the past few weeks. The Sea Shanty Social went down a storm and raised money for the One Can charity via the auction of a hamper donated by McCarthy Stone. There is a gallery of some pictures here. If you've got snaps that you would like to add then please send them over.

Our junior section had fun the next day with a junior/adult pairings in the Generations Tournament. Winners were U11 Corey and Richard, 11-13 Pip and Jamie  and U18 Oliver and Martin.

Kate and Jill's "Macmillan's Coffee Morning" raised £775 with kind members making donations for drinks, cakes and preserves.

Whilst November is a little less busy than October, we are getting ready for a busy festive period. See the events page for information about the suppers, pies, christmas quiz and lots more.

Bar staff wanted

If you or a relative would like to do a little bar work then please email marketing@gmltc.com and we will pass on your details to Di. There is training avaible for someone who would like to do this and our student members who have done this in the past have used this experience on their CVs.

Club Printed Newsletter

We will be doing another quarterly printed newsletter in December. Drop us a line with your articles. Also, we might call it something other than "Club Newsletter". Got any ideas for a name, let us know.

And finally...

Wear it with pride. Give it as a gift!

We have had lots of interest in our new club hoodies. Alison is going to prepare another order in time for Christmas, so look out for a future email with details.

Our ability to expand the range is only dependent on the time it takes to coordniate orders and deliveries. Do you fancy helping out? Let Alison know at membership@gmltc.com.
