Roy Vincent Trophy Tournament and Macmillan Coffee Morning

We have supported the Macmillan coffee morning for the last 15 years and for the last few years we have combined it with the Roy Vincent trophy tournament. This year we are holding it on the Friday, 28th September at 9.30 for 10am. It is a mixed tournament which caters for any ability as partners are drawn.
If you would like to play please let Ann know at anngvin@hotmail.com There will be three rounds and a final.
Our coaches are also supporting us with a first prize of a coaching session and Chris is kindly helping with the organisation. Jill and Kate are doing their usual high class cakes and coffee so if you can't play please support the coffee and bring along a friend.

We are also going to boost donations to Macmillan & Florence Nightingale by collecting CDs & DVDs which will be sold on There will be 2 pink crates in the clubhouse entrance please put any CDs & DVDs which you no longer want in these - they do not need to be in mint condition but must be in sleeves or boxes bearing barcodes - please dont put any without these as they cannot be sold. Thank you.

GMLTC Winter Mixed Doubles League

The GMLTC winter mixed doubles league will start again at the beginning of October. For those not familiar with the format, this is a box league which runs from October to Easter. There are usually around 25-30 pairs in leagues of 5 or 6, and the league is suitable for all standards except perhaps the top team players. It is a very good way to keep your tennis going in the winter and play against different people. New players are very welcome to join - please e-mail the organiser Frances Rawle (francesrawle@btinternet.com) if you are interested. It is best if you find yourself a partner, but if you don't have one get in touch anyway and I will try to match people up into pairs if possible.
The matches are 11 games long, which allows the match plus warm-up to be completed in a one hour session under the floodlights. You will sometimes hear people referring to this as the Floodlit League, but you don't have to play at night, lots of people play their matches in the daytime at weekends. At the end of each six week session the 2 pairs with the most games move up, the two with the least move down, and we start again. We usually fit four rounds in over the winter season, and it is possible for new pairs to join in at the bottom in later rounds if you are not available to start in October.

Finals day results

The Club Championships took place on Saturday and there were many excellent matches across adult and junior finals. Many thanks to Andy and Rowan Fyfe for organising the adult competition and to Scott Paxton for organising the junior competition. We took £180 from sales of cake, teas, coffees and BBQ plus some bar income so a profitable day for the club!
